OIL FUEL DISTRIBUTION. I REDUCTION 1 IN PKICKS EXPKCTFI). J Some, observations of more than passing | interest to motorists have been made by i Sir Robert Waley Cohen, one of the load- ! ing figures in the British Imperial Oil ! Company. Sir Robert has been visiting I New Zealand in connection with the I scheme which is about to bo launched to | introduce a more efficient distribution of ' motor fuel throughout the Dominion. The : method proposed is by tanks 011 wheels, which will do the rounds of the various garages and fill the store pumps direct from trie tank. These bulk supplies will probably be sent, by rail in a similar way, as they are in England and America, and this will naturally cut out a groat deal of tho keroj scne tin and packing case business, 'the latter will not be eliminated, however, (or this part of the work is to bo the basis of a now industry in New Zealand, .as it is hoped to have them made in tho Dominion. While giving no assurance that these economies and more efficient methods of distribution would result in a reduction in the price of motor spirit, Sir Robert certainly indicated that this result should accrue as soon as the scheme was in working order, and ho hoped that thev would before long be able to fix prices in New Zealand more on a par with prices in Rng- ! land and America. The comparatively small and scattered population, tho long distances between the larger towns and cities, and the old methods of distribution in cases, has made the cost of motor fuel in New Zealand proportionately higher than in other countries. Perhaps there is another aspect of the matter which looms in the horizon, and that is the difference it will make to the owners of some of the lorries, many of which have been doing fairly good business in the transport of case fuel, offering serious competition to the railways. However. this is all in the riir, but tho pros- | poets in this direction will be viewed by j some of the carriers with concern. i THE HAMILTON ASSOCIATION. LINK WITH AUCKLAND BODY. Some difficulty has been experienced by ' I the Hamilton Automobile Association in j ! coming to a decision as to whether they 1 should call themselves tho Hamilton | Branch Incorporated of the Auckland Automobile Association, or simply tho Hamilton Branch of that body. By incorporation they would virtually constitute themselves a separate organisation, but by remaining as an ordinary branch they - would bw part of the main organisation and thus be able to share in the various privileges that membership of it entail. With a view to inducing the Hamilton motorists to maintain their membership with the provincial association, threo members of tho Auckland Council, Messrs. G. W. Hutchinson, 11. C. Jones, and A. Grayson, waited upon the executive at its last meeting to place before tho members tho advantages that would bo enjoyed bv remaining as an ordinary branch instead of incorporating themselves. They pointed out that the Hamilton branch, by remaining attached to the A. A. A. would bo supplied with free stationery, road reports, school signs, maps, and with the services of the organiser for any campaign they might embark upon. After consideration of the matter the meeting decided to rescind the resolution to incorporate the Hamilton association and to become a branch of the A.A.A. In thanking the executive for its decision on behalf of the Auckland council, Mr. Hutchinson mentioned that his association was establishing a motorists' information bureau in the city, of which country 2 motorists could avail themselves. The Auckland delegates wero accorded a hearty vote of thanks for their Attendance. MAIN ROADS. 1 | Horahora to Arapuni.—The latest ro- . ports indicate that the Horahora to Arapuni stretch has been regraded, and now provides an excellent surface. a Raglan Road. —Tho Raglan Road is in n fair order with tho exception of a stretch ,1 of several miles at the Raglan end, which is in a very bad state even in good weather, and becomes almost im--0 passable after a few hours steady rain. c Branch Road to Whatawhata.—The e Ngaruawaiiia Borough Council at a recent 1. meeting decided to (dace a sign board at ] the junction of the Whatawhata and g Ngariiawahia-Hamilton Roads. This is . likely to prove a benefit to many motorfj ists who have had difficulty in locating the branch previously. Cambridge-Hamilton.—A notice lias r been published by the Cambridge Road e Board, to the effect that the portion of y the Cambridge-Hamilton main road, which e is to be concreted, will bo closed to traffic | until further notice. It, is also stated 0 that any vehicles using the road until h tho repairs aro curried out do so at their i. own risk. New Plymouth-Taupo.—A New Plyt mouth party of motorists, who recently e went throng to Taupo, reaching Piitaruru tho first night, arid completing tho trip next morning, report that tho road 0 is now reasonably good all through. Over s Mount Messenger they were in top gear 0 all tho way. On the New Plymouth side s of the Mokau ferry some new metalling made the going heavy for a little way. !■' Hamilton-Taupo. —Tho mile of fiat, mid R way between 'J'iran and Putaruru, on the ? Hamilton-Taupo Road, which cut up s badly last winter, is now being metalled. e This should *makc the whole road from • Hamilton to Putaruru negotiable in nil , weathers without chains. Fast Putaruru - | to Lichfield further metalling is required . to connect with the pumice surfaces he- - yorid, bnl, until the Matamafa Count-y 1 loan deadlock has been overcome, this is 1 held up. It is reported that tho Public 3 -Works Department will shortly commence f regrading the main road between Atia--3 umri and Taupo.
