TRAMWAY EXTENSIONS.
Sir,—l, together with a large number of others who patronise the trams in preference to buses, am amazed at the action of the tramway authorities in not carrying out the tram extensions on the Mount Eden and Dominion Roads. Especially so in view of the largo number of residents who have and are settling beyond this, present termini in full expectation that the much-talked-of tram, extensions would surely take place. Were the running of the trams extended, it is safe to say that the bulk of the people living in these districts wmld give preference to the trams, but in the absence of them they perforce use the buses, as by them they get to or near to their homes without changing vehicles. Thus the tram authorities are shutting themselves out of the revenue, and patronage which was awaiting them. Not only so, but as the people living out in these districts are all long distance riders, and all pay the higher fares, the loss of revenue to the trams must be very great. At the same time the buses are reaping a rich Jiarvest and strengthening their opposition. The remedy for this is, lay the tram tracks and get the cars running at the earliest possible date. Tram Patron.
