FIRE AT ONEHUNGA.
OUTBREAK IN WOODSHED. ELECTRIC MOTOR DESTROYED. A gas engine and an electric motor in a shed in Queen Street, Onehunga, owned by Mr. D. McCarten, were damaged beyond repair by a fire at three o'elock yesterday morning. The shed was used fop cutting firewood and the electric motor was installed only about a fortnight ago. The building was well alight on arrival of the brigade, which directed its effort toward preventing the fire from spreading. A motor-lorry in the yard caught fire but was not damaged beyond burning of the hood over the driver's seat. The origin of the fire is unknown. Mr« McCarten left the premises shortly after ten o'clock on Thursday evening, when a careful inspection was made. The shed and gas engine were insured with the New Zealand Insurance Company for £2OO and the stock for £SO. There was no insurance on the electric motor. A cottage, at Huntly, owned by Mrs. Shaw, and occupied by Mr. Polwarth, was destroyed by fire at 3 o'clock this morning. The origin of the outbreak is unknown.
