BAND NOTES.
| Auckland Domain will next week be the i ■ scene of one o! the most interesting baud j contests ever held in the Domain. Lvery- | thing possible has been done by the | Contest Committee to make the event a thoroughly successful one. The three judges appointed are nil men of wide and intimate association with band work and they will have an onerous, yet withal a pleasantly-interesting, task in making awards in the numerous selections and solo contests. The many challenge shields, medals, and other trophies to be awarded during the days of the contest have been on efchioitiori in Queen Street, and "those who have close relationship with band contests sav that seldom, if ever, is so handsome a. series of prizes awarded for a competition of this character. (liven fine weather, the days of massed I music should supply splendid entertain ment, for Aucklanders who will liiv« the pleasure of hearing the best of instrumental talent, not only from various pari;, of the Dominion, but also from Australia Incidentally it. may bo mentioned that, one bandsman from the Commonwealth, after reading the programme and noting the number of entries, did not hesita'.e to say that. Australia could show nothing that to ahead of the Dominion movement cither in quality or number vi competitors.
