THE FIGHTING SPIRIT.
There is no getting the best out of life apart from the fighting spirit. "People who complain that they are unhappy arc often those who are unwilling to cope with their difficulties. They go about tho world telling other people their troubles and by so doing impair the general ability to live courageously. Effort and endurance are a large part, of life. To say that they are all there is of life is to express a too-despairing courage. Happiness comes to us through so many channels—imagination and the capacity for wonder; the emotions of love aud reverence and admiration; the susceptibility to beauty. But tho zest that carries us on toward obstacles, to wear ourselves out if need be in opposing them, may itself bo a jov and a source of joy. Tho fighting spirit is one of our manly faculties, and wo cannot be happy unless we are using all of them.
