REFRESHER COURSES.

NEXT WEEK'S PROGRAMME* 1 Arrangements have been completed for the teachers' refresher courses to be held in Auckland, Hamilton, Whangarei and Paerojj next week. The courses will open on Monday, and will conclude on Saturday. Owing to the large number of teachers in Auckland, 700, they have been divided into four groups. Headmasters of schools of grades 3 to 7, and first and second male assistants will meet in the Domain annexe, where Inspector J. W. Mcllraith will preside. Infant mistresses and assistants in primer departments will meet at the Training College, Inspector M. Priestley being the instructor. A course for female assistants, other than senior female assistants and those engaged in infant departments, will be held at St. Benedict's Hall, Upper Symonds Street, and will be super- • vised by Inspector H. McChesnev. The junior male assistants and sole charge teachers will meet at lvowhai- Junior High School, with Inspector C. R. Munro in charge. Addresses will be given by inspectors, and there will be discussions on school subjects. Physical drill will also form part of the courses, Mr. A. J. C. Fisher, director of the Eiam School of Art, will address the teachers at each centre, addresses also being given by Mr. T. Harris on voice production, by Mr. R. E. Pudman on junior high schools, and by Mr. C. W. Garrard, senior inspector, on school subjects. Mr. Garrard will also deliver addresses at the country centres. The courses at Hamilton, which will ha attended by 100 teachers, will be cn the same lines. Inspector J. T. G. Cox Vviil preside, assisted by Inspector B&mbourne. Sixty teachers will attend the Whangarei and Pacroa centres. Inspectors T. Y. Warren and D. E. Leslie will be in charge of the former centre, and Inspectors G. 11. Plummer and J. W. Hardy will supervise the Paeroa classes. The department's physical and agricultural instructors will be in attendance.
