Miss Rosina Buckman, the Now Zealand operatic soprano, was playing the role of Isolde at the Liverpool Olympia, when, as she was waving a torch as a signal to Tristan, her silk dress ignited. Luckily Miss Buckman was near the wings at the time and an attendant enveloped her in a wrapper. The flames were suppressed, hot the artist's dress was destroyed. Miss Buckman was not hurt, but she says it was a miracle she was not burned to death before the eyes of tho audience.
