THAMES VALLEY POWER.
Sir, —In a recent discussion on a motion# to amalgamate the Auckland city and Waitcmata felectric power districts, one of the speakers is reported to have repeated a statement by the Mayor of Pa proa, t hat, the Thames Valley Electric Power Board had levied a rate to make good losses of £IOO a week, I should be pleased to have the following figures placed before your readers, and allow them to draw their own conclusions. The figures are for the period from April 1 to December 31. 1924, and may be taken as a basis for the remaining quarter of the year:—lncome: Sale of current, £40,071 lis - 3d; estimated proportion o. excess butter-fat charges, £6000; surplns from trading account, £5000; total, £51,071 lis 3d. Expenditure: Power purchased, £15.340 13s lOd; interest and sinking fund, £28,125; maintenance and administration, £6671 Is 9d; total, £50,136, 15s 7d. At the beginning of the year my board decided on reductions in the charges on milking motors, which have given relief to the extent of approximately £4OOO. It also decided to strike what is called , a " non-consumer's rate," not to make up losses, but to act as a stimulus to those who urged the establishment of our system and then failed to assume their responsibility by connecting to the same. This rate," which will produce between £4OOO and £SOOO, has nob been taken into account in the foregoing figures. F. If. Claxtox. Chairman.
