PLANT ACCLIMATISATION.

DUTCH BOTANIST'S VISIT. SUPPLY OF SPARTINA GRASS. A meeting of the plant branch of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society was held yesterday, Mr. F. C. Rollctt'presiding. A letter was received from Mr. IL W. Dalrymple regarding Spartina grass for planting on the tidal fiats of North Auckland. He promised plants for distribution m March or April. A letter was,received from Dr. C. Chilton, biological department, Wellington, anouncing that Dr. J. P. Lotzy, the Dutch botanist, who has been invited to give lectures in New Zealand, will visit Auckland. Ho is anxious to obtain informs tion regarding the introduction of plants and animals into New Zealand. It was decided to invite Dr. Lotzy to meet the council of the plant branch and other Auckland bodies interested in acclimatisation work and to offer him all the assistance possible. Mr. Stanley Hill brought np the question of affiliating with the Horticultural Society and the Institute of Horticulture. Mr. H. Goldie proposed that these bodies be approached with the idea of appointing delegates from the plant branch who might act in conjunction with them in matters of general interest. This was carried. Mr. .T. W. Povnton, S.M., presented the society with a quantity of seeds for distribution, which will be dealt with at the next meeting.
