PROSPECTING IN OTAGO. TESTING OF OLD FIELDS. [BY TEr.EGDAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] DUNEDIN. Wednesday. Interest in prospecting for gold is not on the wane. The Hewitt Company from Auckland are returning to carry on their boring operations at Blue Spur, and Mr E. Valpy, well known in mining circles, and having extensive experience in prospecting in the Deep Stream and tributaries in the Lammerlaws during the last nine months, is doing a lot of preliminary work just getting his ground ready for more exhaustive tests. Another syndicate, with foreign capital, is busy pros pecting an old river bed from Island Block to Dumbarton, and if the returns are encouraging it is said that large electric dredges will be built to work the river.
