A sad seqnel to a surfing accident occured at Rotoraa when Mr. Harry McIntyro died after lying helpless for over two years. Mr. Melntyre, formerly a very popular young ma n in the service of the Post and Telegraph Department, succumbed to injuries which ho sustained on February 11, 1923, while bathing at Waikanae Beach, his spine being injured through a jerk supposed to have been imparted to his neck while he was diving into a wave. The best of medical attention was given both at Tauranga and Rotorua, and at one time it was hoped.that it would succeed in saving him, but all efforts were in vain. Mr. Melntyre leaves a widow and two children. His parents reside in Hawke's Bay.
