THE NEW NORTH ROAD.
CONCRETE PAVING SCHEME. MOUNT ALBERT PROPOSAL, The action of the Mayor of Mount Albert, Mr. L. E. Rhodes, in sending a letter to tho chairman of the Main Highways Board making formal application for a contribution toward the cost of the proposed reconstruction of tho New North Road in the borough, from tho Kingsland post office to tho boundary at Oakley Creek, at an estimated cost of £55,850, was approved at last evening's meeting of the Borough Council. Tho application, the letter stated, was mado under the provisions of tho Main Highways Act. Tho proposed paving was to bo in concrete, 7in. thick. The stretch from Dominion Road to Kingsland, constructed two years ago in similar manner, was giving every satisfaction. The maintenanco of the present road was £2500 a year, which was a heavy drain on the borough's finances. The New North Road was an important highway, and as a route north from Auckland was half a mile shorter than tho Great North 'Road.
