GOLD FOR AUSTRALIA.
SHIPMENTS FROM AMERICA. RESUMPTION OF TRANSACTIONS.' Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, Feb. 16. The Equitable Eastern Banking Corporation is shipping 1,250,000 dollars' worth of gold to Australia. A shipment of 250,009 dollars' worth is also being despatched by the International Acceptance Bank. Rumours to the effect that tho Australian banks intended restricting gold imports from the United States having caused the American banks to withhold shipments the Australian Commissioner, Mr. J. A. M. Elder, communicated with tho Prime Minister of the Commonwealth,, Mr. S. M. Bruce, He immediately cabled in reply denying that tho .Australian banks were taking any such action.
