SAD DROWNING ACCIDENT.
FATHER AND LITTLE SON. CAPSIZE OF A DINGHY. BOY'S BODY RECOVERED. SUMNER ESTUARY VICTIMS. [BY telegraph.—press association*.] CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday. A double drowning accident took place in the estuary at Sumner to-day, the victims being Clarence George Hubert, aged 27 years, a taxi driver who resided in Bamford Street, Woolston, and his son, Stanley Hubert, aged five years. At 9 a.m. the father and son left home for Redcliffs where they entered a dinghy owned by Mr. Hubert's brother, and proceeded out into the estuary to fish. What subsequently happened is not known, but it is surmised that when hauling up the anchor preparatory to returning home, the craft capsized. The body of the boy was found floating in shallow water near Cave Rock, Sumner. It was recovered Immediately and efforts were made to restore animation, but without success. The body was not identified until late to-night, when Mrs. Hubert, alarmed at the prolonged absence of her husband and son, proceeded to the seaside to make inquiries about them. On being informed that the body of a boy had been taken from th« sea she viewed it and thus was made aware of the tragedy. The dinghy was recovered to-night near Shag rock floating bottom up, but the body of Mr. Hubert has not yet been found. Mrs. Hubert is left with a baby nine weeks old.
