MINING NEWS.
THE KAWARU OPERATIONS. Advice has been received by the Kawa" rau Gold mini rig Company from the Ransom es Rapier Company, the makers of the dam gates, that all the material will be shipped in England within two weeks. The engineer of the Kawarau Company regards this as extremely satisfactory, and. hopes arc entertained by interested people that the dam should be completed in time to permit of the subsidiary companies commencing operations in the river bed during the coming winter. MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. New Waiotalii.—Low Level: The drive on the hangingwall reef has been advanced four feet, and the qrnrtaS' taken down. The country here is of a mild nature and a good class for making gold. Footwall Rsef: The drive has been advanced five feet, and the quartz taken down, but no gold was seen in tho quartz broken Out. The reef here is 18in. wide of solid quartz. We should bo under the run of gold which was met with in the intermediate level abore. in another 20ft. of driving Kuranui.—The contractors have completed the stipulated distance of 150 ft., or 29ft. past the reef, and work has been suspended at this point for the present, but from, the mineral veins and small quartz, stringers showing in the .face, I am of ooinion that another reef is near at hand, and would recommend that the crosscut bo extended when practicable. Operations have been commenced to develop tho reof by driving on its north east trend or toward tho slide. The reef looks well, coarse gold being seen in the stone, and dish prospects fairly good. . Tho reef ia about 4ft. wide, well mineralised and of a friable nature, being similar in every respect to tho ore obtained by Hunt and party at the opening of the field, and being free milling oro. can be crushed aid treated at a, small cost. Nonpareil.—Sinkinsr on the WaiotahiCambria Reef is bring continued in the winze. At a depth of 38ft. we have just cut through the cross reef. The former reef is making into a strong body of quartz with nice mineral veins. Risnisr Sun.—Sioni"" operations Lave been carried on in tho No. 1 South Block as usual, breaking the ore over an average width of 24in, worthy £5 10s pur ton. On the drive south on No. 3 reef an extension of 6ft. was made making a total of 46ft. driven on reef. During this last extension the lode became; pinched to 12in. wide, but I am quit© satisfied an improvement will take place in the next few feet of driving, as the country rock shows a better quality. The battery report for the week ending February 11, showed that 10 tamps ran 24.24 hours crushing approximately 25 tons, worth £5 8s per ton. Recovered from plates and Berdan, 790z, amalgam, while the total amalgam on. hand was 1350z.
