POST-PRIMARY EDUCATION.
CONFERENCE WITH MR. TOTE. QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION. The agenda paper of the conference to be held in Auckland shortly between Mr, .Frank Tate. Director of Education in Victoria, who is investigating some aspects of post-primary education in New Zealand, and representatives of secondary schools and industrial and commercial interests, is as follows 1. Is it expedient to continue sending so many free place pupils to the regular high school and is the present proficiency test a sufficient qualification for free secondary education ? 2. Is it wise to bare overlapping of work in secondary subjects between high schools and technical colleges? If not, what is the euro? 3. Is it wise to have two or more local bodies in the small towns administering different branches of post-primary education ? 4. Does the matriculation examination unduly dominate the secondary teaching in this country! If so what is the remedy 1 5. Do the various courses in the secondary schools adequately meet the needs of thn various types of pupils? 6. Are our technical high schools such as Feilding, Mastertoc, Stratford, j and Invercargill working on satisfactory lines or is there room for improvement'? 7. What do you consider to be the proper foration of a technical high school for full-time day pupils? 8. Is the work of our largft technical colleges based' upon sound principles and are we proceeding upon right lines? 9. What is your opinion of the present arrangements for agricultural instruction and the domestic science course for girls ? 10. In what re- | spects may the work of district high schools be improved ?
