NORTHCOTE BOROUGH.
MOWEY FOR DRAINAGE. FURTHER LOAN PROPOSED. The Northcote Borough Council met last evening. The Mayor, Mr. W. E. Richardson, presided, and there were also present: Messrs. J. B. Tonar, F. 0. Devlin, A. Parrish. A. W. Smith, 0. R. Brinsden, W. Kinley, C. Hunter, and W. C. Smith. A further loan poll for drainage purposes will shortly be taken for £10,642, which will bring the total cost of the scheme to £57,142. The balance of £IO,OOO remaining from the loan of £26,500 already authorised, is now required, and the council is making arrangements for an overdraft in anticipation of raising £SOOO from the State Advances Department. It is suggested the other £SOOO should be placed in the open market. The free collection of rubbish monthly has been carried out by the council for many years. In addition to this a "cleanup" "has been decided upon, commencing this morning, and extending over three days. Tenders were received for construction of a hardwood retaining wall at the top of the King Street slip, and that, of Mr. A. Facer at. £B9B was accepted, conditionally upon the. schedule of the contract being accepted by the engineer. Action was taken in respect to two houses not being in accordance with the borough by-laws, and the Health Act. lieports were received from the medical health officer, Dr. H. Chesney, on the matter, Mr. L. Or. Blackman, secretary of the Northcote Fire Brigade, reported that the, branch and other apparatus was missing from the fire-box at the corner of Onewa and Gladstone Roads- The matter was reported to the police. A report from the Lake Takaptma Board of Control showed a satisfactory analysis of the water supply.
