CALCUTTA TO RANGOON.
PRACTICABLE AIR ROUTE, CALCUTTA'. Feb. 7 Captain Cobham, who piloted ViceAir Marshal Sir William Branc.ker (Director of Civil Aviation) from Britain t<j India, arrived yesterday at Rangoon, from ■where both will begin the return flighi to England to-morrow. The airmen hava flown not less than 9000 miles since they left London. Captain Cobham telegraphs that he ii convinced an air route from Calcutta to Rangoon, by way of Akyab, is a sound flying proposition. His opinion, is valuable, as indicating good chances of sncces3 for an air service between England a.nd India, with tributaries to Ceylon and on» ward to Australia. Though airmen have Sown ; over it : sj ntimber of times, Iho area between Ca3« cutta and Rangoon has hitherto been re. garded as too wild and swampy to allow of a regular commercial service. Several pioneer airmen have come to grief in tfe* area* • ' •
