— THE LATEST STOFtY TOLD. REPTILE IN GUN BARREL., [FROM OUR OWN COI'.ItESPON DEXT. ] SYDNEY. Feb. 13. Hero is a story from Port Kembla, quoted- without comment or elaboration from one of Sydney's loading daily papers: " While rabbit shooting on the tablelands at Port Kembia, F. Forrester put his gun or. the ground while he rested in the shade of a tree. When he picked the weapon up again, he found & 3ft. snake in the barrel, with the tip of its tail protruding. Forrester ftarefully unloaded his gun and then killed the reptile." Writing of snakes, there is published this week a story also, this time from Alburv, of "Digger" Marlow, who is engaged in the pleasant occupation of collecting snakes in the Tallar.gatta district, with a view to obtaining a thoroughly representative collection of them, and exhibiting them abroad. In one day's drive, ho secured 27 snakes, including a tiger snake nearly 6ft. long. The method employed was to beat the tussocks until a snake was found, when. Marlow and his fox terrier got busy. Marlow, who is travelling by motor caravan, has already collected enough snakes to cause dramatic exit from life of scores of people.
