MAIMING ALLEGED.

CAUSTIC SODA ON ANIMALS. CHARGES AGAINST FARM HAND. Two charges of unlawfully damaging two horses, a mare and six cows, valued at. £llO. the property of Kenneth Kelsey, by maiming them with caustic soda, thereby committing mischief, were preferred against a boy, aged 17, in the Police Court yesterday. Accused was employed on Mr. Kelsey"s farm at Wiri. It is alleged he sprinkled a solution of caustic soda and water on the animals, which were severely maimed. On the application of Chief-Detective Cummings, the case was remanded until Thursday.
