A few days ago both girls appeared at the Magistrate's Court and pleaded guilty to six charges of theft. They were then remanded to receive sentence to-day. During their period of liberty the two girls, who hud homes in had spent their time travelling North Island, Working at railway at Frankton Junction for a time then going on to Wanganui. On the Wuy they stole clothing, and corning further south, finally stole two bags of clothing at the Chribtahurch railway station-Chief-Detective Gibson said that both girls had borne good characters until six months ago, Their relatives now wished to have them back at home again. The police report showed that they had been roaming about the streets with young men, jiiid the Frankton police described them as "hoodlums," The magistrate said the probation ofr.ee> recommended probation, and attributed 1 he lapses to sudden temptation. He could not agree with this. It was said that tho girls were honest, but, wilful. If they went back home he could not b-3 sure that they would be properly looked after. He took a serious view of the whole affair. As far as he could see, Corrie was the ringleader. Under the new Act, ;t was not necessary for him to enter convictions. He could just order their detention if he thought fit.
