UNIVERSITY COLLEGE.
OXFORD DEBATING TEAM. STUDENTS TO BEAR EXPENSE. A meeting of the University College Council was held yesterday, the Hon. C. Fowlds presiding. Those present were Professors A. P. W. Thomas, H. W. Segar, C. W. Egerton, Messrs. H. J. D. Mahon, C. Rhodes, S. I. Crookos, K. Mackenzie, T. U. Wells, A. Harris and E. H. Northcroft. Messrs. Mackenzie and Northcroft wero appointed members of tho finance committee and education committee respectively. Leave of absence during the first term was granted Mr. L. K. Munro, assistant law lecturer, in order that ho might visit Singapore. ' A letter was received from the president of the Students Association asking for financial support of the council in connection with the visit of the Oxford Union debating team next month. It was stated the association would bo required to guarantee £SO, the support of the council being desired in the event of any loss. Members of the council were of opinion that the financial responsibility should bo borne by the students themselves, and consequently decided to tako no action.
