SHINGLED-HAIR COMBS.
Theatre .audiences 110 longer have the fascinating variety that used to make even the intervals between the acts interesting (says a writer in a London paper). For all the women look very much alike in their shingled sameness, whether it be of the severely straight or the obviously per-manently-waved type. The only discussion that goes on between women regarding the other women around them nowadays is whether the shingle has been wei! done or not. But now that the new combs have come in there will ho plenty to talk about. They arc fascinating affairs, not only the short teethed designs that take the back of the head, but also the very tiny fancy combs that can be worn with either short or long hair. >Somo of these wee combs, hut two inches long ami an inch deep, are reminiscent of the little coloured ones that are worn so mtii'h by the, women of certain .Spanish provinees. They are (<> be, had in scarlet, green, and other livid colours, while a, variation is the two-inch, circular comb in tortoiseshell bordered with a design in gold. The teeth are, cut, from onequarter of the comb, so that when it, is in the hair it. has (lie effect of a. crescent moon, and is particularly charming when tho border is carried out in brilliants. There is a special way of putting in these miniature combs, which arc intended to hold irrepressible; side locks in order. One hand should push Ihe curls forward, ami then the. comb is placed just in. front of tiie hand with the teeth also pushing towards the forehead instead of towards the back of the head- the more usual method. ] am told that combs inserted tlnr, way will never fall out.
