OTOROHANGA COUNTY.
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] OTOROHANGA. Friday. The Otorohanga County Council met yesterday, Mr. F. Potts presiding. A tender for metalling 1981, chains of the Maihiihi to Paewbenua Road was accepted. The work when completed will give a good nVetalled road from Otorohanga io Mangaorongo, Maihiihi and Paewhenua, via the Waipa River Road. Tenders for metalling works on the Tahaia Soldier Settlement Road, the Puketawai Road, Barber's Road and the Honikiwi Road were also accepted. Mr. H. Arnold claimed £3O as compensation for a quarry taken, and it was left <o the county clerk and tho engineer to arrange. The council decided to endeavour to raise a loan of £7OOO- through tho Bank of New Zealand to extinguish its 'antecedent liability. Ai: offer through the bank was favourably considered. It, was left to tho engineer to deal with tho question of repairs to the Tapuwae Road, and it was decided that the men in charge of the grader should report monthly, so as to organise the general repair work of the county more efficiently. Special rates were fixed for the special rating areas of Barber's Road, Upper Mangawhero and Lower Mangavvhero. The engineer reported that the redecking of the Whatiwhatihoo Bridge had been completed. The Okapatu-Pekanui Road was being thoroughly repaired, and grader work was being undertaken on tho Ngutanui and the Pirongia-Kawhia Roads. Proposals for expending £3OO on metalling portion of the latter roads would be forwarded to the Main Highways Council for approval shortly. Metalling contracts were being carried out in various parts of the county, and the grader had been at work on various roads.
