OBITUARY.

MR. DAVID MENZIES, The death has occurred of Mr. DariS Menzies, of Morningside, at the age of 66 . years. Mr. Menzies arrived in Auckland - from Scotland in 1881 in the ship Lady Jocelyn, and had lived in Auckland sinca his arrival. He was an original member of the Old Chums, Leidertafel, Waitemata Minstrels, Burns' Club, Caledonian Society and also a life member of the St. Andrew's Society. Mr. Menzies was a well* known Scottish singer, and was always wil* ling to give his services for benefolenfe " purposes. He leaves a widow, two sons, Messrs. C. A former well known resident of the Manawatu district, Mr. Alfred Drew, died this morning, at the residence oi his son, Mr, A. K. Drew, at Sanson, aged 76 years. Born in the Isle of Wight, the deceased, in company with his parents, went to Australia in 185n;" Four years later he came to New Zealand, making his home in Nelson. Hera the deceased remained for some years, captaining the Nelson' representatives in their first inter-provincial football match, when his team beat Wellington, at Petone, in 1872. Later he joined his brother at Wanganui in a jewellery business. subsequently going to New Plymouth and coming to Pahnerston North in 1896. ' While a resident here ho was associated with many public bodies,' be«' sides being conductor of the choral! * society, and organist of All Saints Churchy He was also first secretary of the Pal* '■ merstoit North Bowling Club. On on 3 occasion he won the North Island bowlinn championship. Of recent years he had resided in Whangarei, but recently took up his residence with his son at Sanson. He is survived bv four sons and three daughters—Messrs. H. B. Drew, Government Publicity Officer, Lon- . don: A. Iv. Drew, clerk to the Manawatu County Council; C. Y. and S. N. Drewj of Dannevirke; and Mesdame-s G„Woolly (Whangarei), H. Griffiths ;Hamilton), and Miss Drew (Whangarei).
