"DONATIONS" FROM PATRONS WELLINGTON BAND FINED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION'.] WELLINGTON. Wednesday. In the case in which the Port Nicholson Silver Band was prosecuted for making a charge for admission to a Sunday night concert, the magistrate decided to convict. The band made a practice of taking what they called a "donation" from the public, which • qualified for admission to the concert, out the magistrate held this was "an obvious attempt to evade the by-law. The evidence showed that the charge for admission was made to the main part of the hall." A small iSne was imposed.
