ALFONSO OF SPAIN.
LOYAL DEMONSTRATIONS. AMNESTIES TO PRISONERS. Router. MADRID. Jan. 23. The recent national crescendo of manifestations of loyalty to King Alfonso culminated in remarkable demonstrations which were termed "Alfonso's Day." A huge procession, headed by members of Parliament and provincial councils and Mayors from all parts of the country, marched, with bands and banners, to the Palace. There, on the balcony, King Alfonso and members of the Royal Family and of the Directory, remained for several hours in spite of the intense cold, watching the march-past. The King had earlier received shoals of telegrams of congratulation. Crowds besieged the Palace to sign albums in connection with the celebrations. A Royal amnesty was granted to soldiers, sailors and civilians who had been convicted of minor offences. Generals Berenguer and Sarvia, who were arrested in October in connection with the anti-Royalist plot, have been released.
