ALTERATION OF DATE. __ ''' ■■■■iii lyThe date (February 21), originally selected by the Matamata Racing Club for its annual race meeting having been allotted to tho Otahuhu Trotting Club, and also to the Ngarnawahia Racing Club, the committee of the Matamata club applied for March 28. and this has been affirmed by the Racing Conference, The programme drawn up by the Matamata club for its meeting comprises eight events, and the Matamata Cup of £*2oo will also have a trophy of the value of £25, tho latter being donated by Mr. J. Price. Various works have been undertaken since last year's meeting. The railing of tho course is now almost completed, and necessary buildings are also well under way. J. T. Jamioson has returned from) Trenfham and is located at Devonport with j i a team of eight horeee, which includes Steel Bar, Spoony. Gold Acre, Lo Choueas, Drolatique and Landslide. "HEROIC THE BRILLIANT."j TO GO TO AUCTION. A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE. Jam 215. It is now announced that the three-year-old colt Heroic is to bo re-submitted to auction. Heroic was submitted to auction at Melbourne in November last, when a bona-fido bid of 16,00t)gps, was made for tho colt. The owner, Mr. J. R. Gorteen, however, declined the offer, and tho colt was passed in. Last week, a Melbourne cablegram stated that Heroic had been, bought by Mr. M. Wenke, a hotelkeeper in Sydney, for £17.000. and he was nominated for the Newmarket Handicap by tho latter. The V.R.C.
