SOUTHERNERS AT WICKETS. 214 FOR NINE WICKETS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday. The Plunket Shield match between the Auckland representatives and Canterbury was commenced at Lancaster Park this afternoon. The weather was fine, but the sky was overcast. The wicket was in good order. Canterbury won the toss and decided to bat, opening with Blunt and Gasson. These two gave the homo team a good start, although Blunt went cheaply, for him, being \caught by Garrard when he had notched an attractive 32. Oliver, one of Canterbury's promising young players, was responsible foe a useful 46. At five o'clock the score board read 160 for five wickets, the Canterbury captain, Patrick, being then associated with W. Hayes. Several wickets then fell cheaply, and when stumps were drawn the Canterbury total was 214 runs for nine wickets. Details of the scores arc:— CANTERBURY.—First Innings. Blunt, c.
