DEADLOCK AT BRISBANE
SEAMEN'S DETERRED PAY.
OTHER VESSELS AFFECTED.
A. and N.Z. BRISBANE. Doc. 2n. The conference between shipowners' representatives and the local branch of the Seamen's Union discussed points at issue in regard to the steamer Canberra. The union representatives stated that unless the demands in regard to deferred pay were met unconditionally they would not supply a crew.
The shipowners said they would not agree to pay. the claim.
The seamen asked to be allowed until this morning to consider tho position, when they would give the owners a definite answer. - ' .
Some members of the crew of the Bombala and Cooma have also given notice of their intention to leave the vessels. In the meantime the necessary steps have been taken to pay off the crews if the stamen's answer is .unfavourable.
