IRELAND AND THE LEAGUE.

REGISTRATION OP TREATY.

BRITISH DEMUR JUSTIFIED.

MATTER FOR PRIVY COUNCIL.

By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright

(Received 7.5 p.m.) Re " ter - LONDON. Dec. 10. Presiding at a moating of the Council of the League of Nations Union, at Caxton Hs.ll, Professor Gilbert Murray, Blinding to the objection to the Irish Free State registering with the League of Natiomi, the treaty constituting it a Dominion, explained that any dispute about a treaty among members of the British Empire went to a Privy Council. Such a dispute was very much better settled inside the Empire than by calling in foreigners. Imperial lawyers should try io define exactly the meaning of the term used in the treaty, "Within the British Empire," and the exact relations of the Dominions to themselves, and to the Mother Country. Professor Murray expressed the opinion that it was quite clear in the meantime that the British Government was right in not handing over the agreement between the Mother Country and one part of the Empire to foreign tribunals to settle.
