FRACAS IN A CARRIAGE.
WILD SCENE OF DISORDER.
SEQUEL IN POLICE COURT.

TB KUITI. Saturocy. There was a wild scene on the 7.45 express from Auckland last evening in a second-class " smoker " occupied by firemen and sailors. Apparently all were drunk, and the majority quarrelsome, and a free fight was in progress when the train left Te Awamutu. The Te Kuiti police were communicated with, but the fray had subsided by (he time the train reached here.
When the police entered the carriage it was " a regular shambles," as they described it. Men in the last, staires of helpless drunkenncf* were strewn over th 5 seats and floor. A window was smashed, and the face of one man, who had been pushed (through, was badiv gashed, his blood being splashed about, the carriage. He was taken to a private hospital.
As a result of the affair Frederick Lipham was charged before Messrs. J. McCarroll and H. Cole, J.P.'s, with being drunk on the train and with breaking a window. He was fined £2 2s and ordered to pav for the window.
