ARREST OF CHINESE.
FIVE CONCEALED ON SHIP.
ALLEGED ATTEMPT TO LAND.
ARRIVALS FROM SUVA'.
Hip arrest of five Chinese who, it is alleged, were being concealed on the steamer Kaiwarra. was effected at 10.30 last evening by Sergeant Lambert, and Constable Christmas, of the water police.
The Kaiwarra anived from Suva at 1 p.m. yesterday, and was berthed at the Prince s Wharf. As the result of information received from the custom ant (unities the police visited the ship in company •with two customs officials, Messrs. 1). Mlddleton and C. Schlaepfer. The five Chinese, it is stated, were found concealed on the vessel and were arrested on a charge .of unlawfully attempting to enter New Zealand. They had not presented themselves to the customs officials when the latter boarded the vessel on her arrival.
The five men will appear at the Polica Court this morning.
