MR. J. DEAN, CHAIRMAN.

LOAN POLL FOR £200,000.

PUKEKOHE. Thursday. The first meeting of the Franklin Power Board was held at Pukekohe to-day, when there were present: Messrs. J. Dean. H. P. Garland, E. C. Cuff (Franklin County Council), J. Patterson and G. T. Parvin'O'ulcekohe Borough Council), W. MeEwen (Waiuku), and G. Arrowsmith (Tuakau). The secretary to the Provisional Committee, Mr. A. P. Day. who presided, reported that all technicalities had been carried out. Gn the motion of Mr. J. Patterson the meeting adjourned for five minutes as a mark of respect to tho memory ot the late Mr. James Potter, an old resident of the district, and the secretary was requested to convey tho condolence of the board to the relatives.

Mr. J. Dean was elected chairman, his remuneration to be fixed after the loan proposals were carried. Mr. Day was appointed secretary at a salary of £100 par- annum until such time as the loan proposals were launched. The election of a deputy-chairman was also deferred. Tho remuneration of the members of the board was fixed at £1 Is per meeting and a travelling allowance of Is per mile. The Franklin Cou lty Council building was appointed tho public office of the board pro tem, and the meetings were fixed for the first and third Tuesdays in the month, the next meeting to be held on January 20. The whole board was elected a finance committee, with a quorum of three.

Mr. J. R. Overton was appointed electrical engineer. The recommendations of the provisional committee with regard to the loan proposals for £200,000 were adopted, and the chairman, secretary and engineer were instructed to make arrangements for a poll of ratepayers on February 6.
