A special train conveying an itinerant circus northward struck a dray on a level crossing at Hukerenui shortly after noon to-day, instantly killing the driver of the vehicle, a youth named Jack Broomfield, 19 years of age, a brother of Mrs. Aston, of Whangarei, whose homo was destroyed by fire last evening. His father and brother died during the influenza epidemic and another brother dropped dead. The victim of to-day's tragedy was caught under the engine, and his body was shockingly mutilated. An inquest will be hold to-morrow at Hukerenui, in which district, he resided.
