THE GISBORNE SALE.

FLEECE WOOL BARRED.

BUYERS UNABLE TO OPERATE.

[BY TELKGRAPH. — OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

GISBOENE. Thursday.

It has now been definitely decided that no fleece wool will be offered at the Gisborne wool sale on Thursday, and that, as usual, the offering will be confined to wool oddments.

At a recent meeting of farmers and woolbrokers it was decided that a quantity of fleece wool should be included in the offering, which, in the case of an oddment sale, is limited to 2000 bales. It is understood, however, that since then the local buyers who represent the large firms have intimated that, according to the rules of the Woolbrokers' Association, they are not allowed to buy any wool at an oddment sale where fleece wool is offered. This would mean that if the fleece wool was put up, as intended, no buyers would have been able to operate, with the result that the sale would have been a failure. The position, therefore, is that tht sals will be confined solely to oddments, and once again the attempt to provide a, woo" sale for Poverty Bay has been of no avail.

Representatives of the Woolbrokers' Association, discussing the matter, stated that they were now convinced that the only way in which Gisborne would ever succeed in get tin,? a sale would be by having the selling season in New Zealand extended. At the present time the buyers are rushed from one place to another throughout the whole of the selling season, and it is practically a physical impossibility for them to visit towns in addition to ithose at present included on the sales roster. The local branch of the association and the farmers will need to make a concerted move to have tho selling season extended if Gisborne is to be placed on the roster of sales.
