USE OF GARDEN HOSES.
THE EMBARGO MODIFIED, ■<• ' ■ /. SUNDAY AND THURSDAY*. t " Permission is to be given to householders to use garden hoses within restricted periods. At the meeting ,bf the council last evening the Waterworks Committee, which v had been considering the. question of hose charges," made : » statement; calculated to meet the present position. This was to the 'effect''that the . committee'having power to'act, had re-
solved to allow a restricted supply on two days per week—S.unda.f aud Thursday— the hose to be held in the hand only, it was to be understood that this permission would operate only when the demand for water did not exceed 8| million gallons a day and that when the total consumption* exceeded that figure the use of the hose would be strictly prohibited. Mr. J. W. Hardley asked whether this would apply to bowling greens, and the Mayor said that the matter was in the hands of the committee, w;hich would see that there was no hardship. It was desired to give every facility and to place no restriction on the use of hoses that was not absolutely imperative. r . •., .•■
