Charges of having stolen motor-cycle

accessories valued at £1 13s and having used obscene language, were denied by Ernest Thomas Holloway in the Police Court yesterday, before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M. Cyril G. Martin, employed in premises in Fort Street Lane, stated he left his motor-cycle in a doorway off the street. Glancing out of a window on the fourth floor he noticed a man armed with a pair of pliers, leisurely removing a watch and a mirror from the handle-bars. Witness hurried down the fire-escape, and the stranger made off after dropping the mirror and watch in the road. When overtaken accused denied having interfered with the motor-cycle, and used obscene language in emphasising his innocence. Accused pleaded mistaken identity, and said he used bad language because he was offended at the suggestion that he was a thief. The magistrate held that the identification had been satisfactorily established, and commented on the prevalence of sneak-thieving. Sergeant Rowell said accused had three previous convictions for theft. A sentence of one month's imprisonment was imposed. FALSE PRETENCES BY BIGAMIST. Alexander Robertson, aged 37, who, in the Supreme Court on Wednesday,, received a sentence of two years', reformative detention for bigamy, appeared for sentence upon' three charges of having obtained goods and money by false pretences. The magistrate said he would not augment the sentence imposed for the indictable offence, and accused was accordingly convicted without penalty. •> A VAGRANT IMPRISONED. Annie Slattery, aged 56, who made her 37th appearance, pleaded not guilty to a charge of being a rogue and vagabond. Constable Walton stated that when accused was warned to discontinue her idle habits she went to work at Henderson. Soon, however, she succumbed to the attractions of the city, and returned. She spent most of her time loitering about the streets, and was frequently found "dossing" on vacant sections A sentence of two months' imprisonment was imposed. FINE OF £1 IMPOSED FOR A/SSAULT. A fine of £1 was imposed on Clarence McKeown, aged 25, for assault upon Francis McCabo. ONEHUNOA COURT SITTING. ' MAORI FINED FOR ASSAULT. At the Onehunga Police Court yesterday, before Messrs. J. Laking and J. Stoupe, J.P.'s, a Maori, Androw Hokai, was charged with assaulting Albert Edward Larking the previous evening, and fined £5 and costs, half the fine to go to tho complainant.
