THE DRAINAGE BOARD.
NEW WORK AT TAMAKI.
INCLUSION IN BOARD'S AREA.
The Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board meb last evening, Sir James Gunson presiding.
It was reported that a communication had been forwarded to the Minister for Internal Affairs, requesting au alteration to the board's boundary, so as to includo a portion of the Tamaki road district. The object is to obtain authority to connect tho Tamaki road district's reticulation system with the drainage board s system, Tho survey in connection with tho necessary branch sewer had already been completed, reported the engineer and secretary, Mr. H. H. Watkins, and plans and specifications were being prepared so that tenders might bo invited upon the issue of the proclamation. Representations were made by the Newmarket/ Borough Council, urging the reconstruction of tho Railway Gully sewer, which was required to provide relief for storm-water .drainage. Tho chairman said the board would treat the matter as urgent and would put tho work in hand on the completion of the work now being undertaken in the One Tree Hill district.
It was decided to levy upon the Public Health Department an amount of £300 for the current year for drainage facilities, provided for the Auckland Mental Hospital and to levy an assessment annually for this purpose. Tho area upon which the hospital stands is a non-rate able one.
It was resolved, at the request of tho City Council, to proceed, under the provisions of the Auckland ami Suburban Drainage Act, 1908, with a view to compelling certain property-owners to clean the watercourses running through their properties in Remuers. The watercourses referred to are not involved in the hoard's scheme, nor aro they likely to be, but it was considered that the board was the proper authority to exercise control of all watercourses in its district. By its resolution, tho board agrees to take similar action in respect of watercourses oilier th?.n those in Rernuera, upon application of the local body in which the watercourse or drain is vested.
In view of tho inadequacy of the board's workshop and store, it was decided to negotiate with the City Council for tho lease of a new site having a frontage of 25ft. to Pattrsson Street. it, was stated that plans hao been prepared mr a brick building at a cost of £750.
