GOVERNMENT REPORT.
I The Government meteorologist reported las,t night as follows:—Present indications are for easterly winds, strong to gale, veering to southerlies northward of New Plymouth and Castlepoint and strong north-east to south-east winds elsewhere; weather unsettled, cloudy and misty, with rain generally and heavy rain with rivers rising in many parts X)l the North I Island and the north-east districts of the | South Island. Barometer falling, but ] rise everywhere soon.
HERALD SPECIAL FORECAST. The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-dav was supplied to us by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening :— Cloudy and unsettled weather conditions, with rain, will rule generally, but improving everywhere shortly and becoming cooler. A spell of fine, bright weather will -follow the present disturbance. Westerly winds, moderate to strong, backing to south, and increasing Strong to gale, beas rough and becoming very heavy in Cook Strait and on east coast, where a cyclonic storm centre is likely to concentrate.
