COACH WORKERS' DISPUTE.
DOMINION CONCILIATION.
NO AGREEMENT on WAGES.

WELLINGTON. Tuesday.
Tlui Dominion Coachworkers' dispute came beforo a conciliation council this morning. The commissioner, Mr. W. Newton, presided and the assessors were as follows:—Employees: Messrs. B. Martin (Auckland), A. Blueden (Auckland), T. Pentecost (Christchurch), and A. L. Montcith (Wellington); Employers: Messrs L. Joll (Auckland), W. J. Cousins (Auckland), D. H. Taylor (Wellington), A. Johnson (Christchurch), and E. C. Harvey (Wellington). The union asked for a 44-hour week with wages as follows: Journeymen coachworkers, 2s 9d per hour; helpers, 15 to 16 years, £1 10s per week: 16 to 17 years, £1 15s; 17 to 18 years, £2 6s; 18 to 19 years, £2 15s; .19 to 20 years, £3 ss; 20 to 21 years, £3 15s; over 21 years, 2s per hour. In their counter proposals the employers asked for a 47-hour week, and the following wages:—Journeymen coachworkers, 2s 1 3-4 d per hour; improvers, Is 8 3-4 d per hour for the first, six months and Is 10 34d for the next six months; helpers, 15 to 16 years, £1 per week; 16 to 17 years, £1 ss; 17 to ]8 years, £1 10s: 18 to 19 years, £1 15s; 19 to 20 years, £2 ss; 20 to'2l years, £2 15s; over 21 years, Is 83 4d per hour; extra helpers, Is' ' 8 3-4 d per hour; assemblers, Is 9 3-4 d for the first year and Is 11 3-4,1 per hour thereafter.
Agreement was reached on machinery clauses, but neither side gave way in regard to the major issues.
