TEAMS AND BUSES.
INCIDENT AT CHRISTC H URCH.
Motor-bus competition with the trams in • Chrfstchurch is very keen. This is illustrated by an incident that occurred last week. Arrangements had been made by -'-the promoters of cycling sports at English Park with the tramway authorities for a' special car with two trailers attached to wait in Cathedral Square for about .ten minutes while the band, on ono of the trailers, played a few items to attract people to the sports, The arrangement was carried out, the special train drawing up in. the Square. Passengers had hoarded it', and the band was still playing when a bus drew up alongside, with the result that about half of the tram passengers were enticed to take passage by it, although the tram faro was 3d, as compared with the bus faro of 6d. Apparently the novelty of a ride on a motor-bus, despite the fact that it was 100 per cent., dearer, was the determining factor. When the special train arid the first bus had left, another one appeared, and tried to get a load, but was not quite so successful as its predecessor.
