RACING AND HUNT CLUBS. r . ' " : ' 1 . • '•. , v AMALGAMATION PROPOSED. [By TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] TE AWAMUTU, Monday. Sonic little time back a communication ■was received from the Racing Conference suggesting an amalgamation between the Waikato Hunt and the Waipa Racing Club. In response to a request to th?» Racing Conference for enlightenment on the suggested amalgamation, a reply has been received by this Waipa Racing Club Committee. The reply points out that it was never intended that hunt clubs should become . r;'icing clubs with no racecourses of their own to race upon, and thus amass profits beyond their own requirements as a hunt club. "It is not a question of what assets the hunt club now has as compared with your club,* but the following ought to be the basis for the amalgamation or transfer ol the day's racing from the hunt club to yours:—(l) The hunt club does not lose its identity as a hunt club; (2) the hunt club retains its present identity; (3) the _ '.aunt club merely transfers it day's racing to tho Waipa Racing Club, and for fr such transfer the Waipa Racing Club agrees to pay the hunt club a subsidy or a percentage of tho pnofits on the day's racing; (4) tho hunt club should not require a subsidy or percentage beyond its actual expenses as a hunt club, after deducting members' subscriptions and funds received from other sources. ft . ought to be possible for the two clubs to arrive at a satisfactory arrangement under these conditions." Th« chairman, \l-. A. S. Wallace, reporting on a conference at Hamilton previously between delegates from the two clubs concerned and the Hamilton Racing Club, stated that neither body's delegates wore favourable to tho suggested amalgamation. All delegates at the conference were of opinion that as an alternative Wamn should receive oce extra unconditional permit and Hamilton two. It has been decided to ask tho Waikato Hunt if it is favourable to meeting a committee of the Waipa Club to discuss the Racing Conference's proposals. The following sub-committee was set up by the Waipa Racing Club for the purpose:— Messrs. A. S. Wallace, A. H. Story, H. Weal, H. A. Empson, and J. G. Wynyard (secretary).
