SENSATIONAL BOLT.
EXCITEMENT IN MELBOURNE.
WOMAN SERIOUSLY INJURED.
Two gallant attempts were made last week to stop one of the mast .sensational holts ever seen in the streets of Melbourne. The holt culminated in severe injury to a woman. Two horses attached to a jinker were left standing in Lonsdale Street. Suddenly they became startled, and bolted into Spencer Street. There a man jumped into the jinker, and tried to climb out on to the horses' backs, but was thrown heavily as they swerved into Collins Street.
The horses spend up Collins Street, narrowly missing trams and passing through heavy traffic at a gallop. Halfway up Collins Street, a constable threw, himself into the jinker, but as it seemed certain that a terrific collision with a tram was certain to occur he dropped off, after having climbed out on to one of the horses' backs.
The jinko»- missed the tram, and continued at great speed until the horses and vehicle crashed into a motor-car with such violence that the car was thrown against another car. This car was thrown several yards. It knocked down Miss Janet Spencer, of West Brunswick, the wheels of the car passing over her chest. She was admitted to the hospital in an unconscious condition.
