PRELIMINARY ARRANGEMENTS.

A meeting of the combined committees of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association and the Auckland Industrial Association, was held yesterday. Mr.* S. Hodge, president of the A. and P. Association, presided. Mr. A. D. Stanley was appoined secretary of the committee, and Mr. J. Findlay, manager for the exhibition. The manufacturers of the N.K.J, rennet offered as a trophy a gold rennet keg cup. value 50 guineas, to bo won twice in succeeding years, or three times at intervals, together with cash prizes for managers of £10. The competition is to be .held at all winter shows for the best cheese for export, manufactured from N.K.J, rennet. Mr. A. A. Thornton, chief Government grader, said that the class was a good one, and that there should be large entries. The offer of the trophy was accepted, The keg will be competed for at the Auckland, Waikato. Palmerston North, Hawera, Dunedin. Southland and, probably, Wellington shows.

A letter was read from Mr. P. J. Carroll, acting-supervisor of dairy exports for the Commonwealth of Australia, in connection with the proposal that classes should be provided in the Auckland Winter Exhibition for dairy produce. Mr. Carroll stated that he had communicated with the Victorian Butter and Cheese Factory Managers' and Secretaries' Association, and had received a favourable reply. His suggestion was that classes as follows should bo included in the exhibition schedule: —Export butter (six weeks' storage}, salted; export butter (six weeks' Storage), nnsalted; fresh butter, salted as for local markets. Mr. Carroll stated that the question of difference in style of boxes used in Australia would require consideration. Mr. A. A. Thornton spoke ntrongly in favour of this proposal, and said that it would be the first time outside countries would compete here. Probably entries could be obtained from Fiji, as well as other countries. The petitions should be open to all countries. New Zealand, in return, would bo able to send butter for competition in Mel bourne. It was resolved to instruct the dairy committee to draw up the necessary conditions. Mr. W. J. Wernham's resignation as a member of the Education Committee was accepted with regret. A vote of thanks was accorded him for his services in past years.

The State Forest Service wrote asking that school forestry competitions should be included in the next Winter Exhibition. The matter was referred to the Education Committee.
