BY ARCHER.

The two-year-old gelding by Eaton Lad from,, Persiancllo. in J. T. Jamieson's stable at Papaktira. has been named Dal Eaton. This youngster is a half-brother to dralla.

. Loughrea is one of the proved slayers in [ tho Auckland Cup. Last season he won , the Wellington Cup. carrying 8.5 and do- <( foating Gold Light (8.0). Ho also annexed i the Dunedin Cup. carrying 9.5. and running ' the distance in 2m.32 3-ss, and the Riverton I Cup with 10.1. His form thin spring has not been Quito so good, but hn v.\a3 second in the Canterbury Cup awl third in the G. G. Stead Gold Cup, both of which were won by Gold Light. ■ Hyde Park ran a good race in the Oroua Stakes at Feilding, finishins a creditable second to the brilliant Tamatete. This colt is on the improve and should do further [ good sorvico for his owner during the season. i H. Goldfinch will ride Forest Gold in the Taumarunui Cup. Tho same horseman has also been engaged to rido Illumination in tho Auckland Cup. | Fine Arch hnd a recurrence of his bleeding troubles during (he running of the Waituna Hurdles at Feilding and was pulled up after going tux furlongs. The Gisborne-owncd horses. Waioeka Jack Startle, and Demagogue, returned home by tho Arahura on Tuesday. They were accompanied by .Radiate, who is to race at the summer meetings in the Hawkc's Bay district. Radiate is a three-year-old gelding by Polydamon from Bleriot that has been trained at Ellerslie by J. Buchanan. Three Cheers, a four-yen full-brother to Polonelt. is expected to arrive in Auckland next week, and will join J. Buchanan's stable. Three Cheers started 10 times last season for. one win. one second and one third, winning th Apprentices' Hack Handicap at Wauoa from Merry Belli and Soleil ■ c* Ur. The popular light-weight, H. Wiggins, who was un.-.ole to ride at the Takapuna meeting owing io indisposition, is about again [end may be seen in tho saddle at the Woodville meeting next week. R. E. Brown left for Tauraarunui onThu'rs-i day morning with Boomerday. Gala Day, 13 roadwood, and Native Girl. T. George, with litem, and G. Lindsay, with Aerofortis and Qinnvurdiu. went by the same train. W. Rennie will be riding at Taumarunui, where one of his mounts will be Uncle Jack. the Auckland horseman is also going to VVoodville. where he has been engaged to do 11. Mickey's hurdle riding. • *i" lc ! l ' i,v ' B h"s mounts nt Tanmarumii will include Waipofo. Strongholt, and 'Tinokaha. At Taumarunui last year Tinckaba won a I double, annexing the Cup and th» Kanroroa I Flying Handicap. He is engaged in the i same two events to-day and may endeavour .to repeat the performance. Tho class engaged in the Trial Plate at I taumarunui is not rtrong. Among tho acceptors are Gold Clip. Arch Opal, and Uahepoto, who have recently filled minor platings among the hack class, and Curraghmore, who finished third in a two-year-old event at Pacroa last season. Vclociform. who is top-weight in the Manumit Hurdles at Taumarunui, has been placed in several hurdle events this season. At Wanganui she finished third in the Okehti Hurdles, won by Crown Coin, and second in the Gonville Hurdles, won by Mis'-. Mickey, while at Waverley she ran second to Gold Peak in tho Hack Hurdles. Maria showed some pace among the> open sprinters at Takapuna, and may do a good deal better among weaker opposition at Tauinarunui. Mr V*'. H. Wackrow will have Boomerdny and Gala. Day to carry his colours in tho laumarunui Cup to-day. Boomerdav ran second in this event last year, and with a similar impost should again race prominently. Gala Day .has been doing nicely and is expected to run well, though he has yet to prove himself over (he distance. Arizona Maid is a useful mare on. countrv courses, and should be hard to best in the Taumarunui Cup. She was successful in a hack event at this meeting last year. Lech Abbey showed signs of a return to form at Thames, where he was unlucky in j the running. Under a light impost ho can , run a smart six furlongs and may be in the money at. Taumarunui. i The good showing made by Submergo in in'?. Totara Hurdles at Thames, where ho | was a good second to Advent, will cause him to receive some support in the Manunui Hurdles to-day. The manner in which Waipoto won the Borough Handicap at Thames indicated that she is likely to be again seen to advantage in back events at the country fixtures. She is engaged in the Matapuna Hack Handicap and the Matiere Handicap at Taumarunui.

Lilac Domino id reputed to "be speed.v, and among the weak class at Taumarunui, will have excellent opportunity '.o show her pace.

Abutters have been very qui*', at Ellersiie since the conclusion of the T.ikapima meeting, and during the week there has been very little of interest on the track?..

Muskeionn , has not been asked to do a great deal since returning from Riccarton, having practically been confined to stead pace work on the tan. The imported horse looks healthy and bright.

Among the lightly-weighted candidate for hie Auckland Cup. one that has left the impression of being a stayer is Far North, who was finishing on well in fourth place in the '.Mitchelaon Cup. He may not lie quite the class to win the bis two-mile event at Ellerslie, though it is possible that lie is a really genuine stayer.

It is stated that Loughrea mar be sent north to S. Waddell. who will complete the Kilbroney gelding's preparation for the Auckland Cup.
