REAL BRITISH PATRIOT.
JOINED ARMY WHEN 55.
A story of true patriotism was told at a London inquest last month on a wheelWright named Thomas Harrup Reed, who was found ill in the street and died in a hospital. Mr. Reed was 55 years of age in 1915, but so determined was he to "do his bit" that he succeeded in joining the Army by declaring that he was only 45. He was wounded in France in 1916, but would not apply for a pension as he said * he wanted to serve his country, and not . make money out of the war. The coroner commented on Mr. Reed's meritorious conduct, and said that his Btrenuons HSe in the war as a wheelwright possibly had something to do .with his death.
A verdict of death' from natural causes was returned.
