The latter was in" a very bedraggled condition, and Mr. Sorlie, noting his plight, suggested that he pull himself together, when he wjis assured of an engagement at Balmsjn, opening the following week. The actor explained that he had no wardrobe, and until such was acquired he would not be able to take advantage of the kind offer. " I will buy you a couple of suits," said Mr. Sorlie, " and you can go into rehearsal straight away." " What, salary?" queried the derelict. "I will start you at £6 and see how you behave yourself," was the answer. " Six pound is no good to me," was the reply, and the derelict turned on his heel.
