"GASSED" RESCUERS.
WORKMEN'S HEROIC DASH.
Gallant but unavailing efforts to rescue a comrade who had been overcome by gas were performed by three men at Charlton recently, says a London paper. The men were engaged in excavating some ground. During the night gas had accumulated in the hole, which had been dug to a depth of about 20ft. The first man to enter the hole, Fredk. John Timpson, was instantly overcome by the gas. Frederick Oliver, his foreman, dashed to his assistance, but was himself overcome. John Krull and Albert James Bass then rushed to the lescue, and with the aid of a lope succeeded in pelting their companions to the surface. ; All four men weie affected by gc.s Hid I were taken to a hospital, wheie TimphOii j died.
