PRESENTATIONS.
A presentation of a suit case was made yesterday by Mr. J. M. Cassie, chief engineer, to Mr. James Stanwell, draughtsman in the chief engineer's office at the Chelsea refinery of the Colonial Sugar Company, as a mark of the esteem in which be is held by the engineering staff and other employees. Mr. Stanwell has relinquished his connection with the company to take up a position at the Wsirua hydro-electric works at Whangarei.
Mr. A. Riddell, who has retired on superannuation from the Colonial Sugar Company staff after upwards of 40 years' service at the Chelsea works, was yesterday presented with a wallet of not«s by the works manager, Mr. A. Campbell, on behalf of the office staff and employees. Prior to his departure for Morrinsville, to which town he has been. transferred, Mr. C. Newshara, of the Post Office staff at Te Aroha, was entertained at a smoke concert and made the recipient of a presentation. A presentation was made at Te Puke to the Rev. J. W. Chaoman, Anglican Church vicar, on the occasion of his approaching departure from the district. A presentation was also made to Mrs. Chapman, who was prominent in tennis circles. The staff of Sterling's Stores, Paparoa, entertained Mr. George Wright, who is leaving the district to take up residence at Epsom, Mr. J. Sterling, on behalf of the gathering presented Mr. Wright with a case of pipes and Mrs. Wright with a set of carvers. In the course of his remarks, he mentioned also the active part taken by the young people of the family in the social activities of the district. A public farewell social was accorded later in the Matakohe Hall, when Mr. Rodney Coates expressed appreciation of Mr. 'and Mrs. Wright's services to the district, and extended to them, the good wishes of all. Mr. J. T. F. Mitchell, of Invercargill, who has been appointed manager in Auckland for Messrs. Wright, Stephenson, Ltd., was tendered a complimentary luncheon on the eve of his departure from the southern centre by representatives of the business and farming sections of the community. He was also the recipient of a case of" stainless cutler}'. Appreciation of Mr. Mitchell's worth as a business man and a public-spirited citizen was expressed by the chairman, Mr. R. A. Anderson, and a number of other speakers representing commercial interests and public bodies. Mr. Mitchell has been in the service of Messrs. Wright, Stephenson, Ltd., in Invercargill, for upwards of 20 years.
